Our Statement on the Guilty Verdict from the Derek Chauvin Trial

Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream.

יִגַּ֥ל כַּמַּ֖יִם מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּצְדָקָ֖ה כְּנַ֥חַל אֵיתָֽן

Today our justice system found the man who killed George Floyd guilty. But our hearts are still heavy. The conviction today is one small victory for accountability, but by no means is it a triumph that the work is done.

While justice was being pursued in the courtroom, just miles away Daunte Wright, yet another Black person, was killed by the police. George Floyd should have been alive today. Daunte Wright, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Eric Garner, and so many others should be alive today.

The work of dismantling systemic racism is nowhere near over. Today’s verdict was the right one, but this case has shed a brighter light on just how much work we have left to do.
