Yom Hazikaron: Share Your Memories
In a few weeks from now, we will mark Yom Hazikaron, Israel’s memorial day for fallen soldiers and victims of terror attacks. There is almost no one in Israeli society who does not have a personal loss that they mourn on Yom Hazikaron, and Israelis often spend the day sharing stories of their lost loved ones.
Within the BJ community, we know that there are personal connections and stories related to Yom Hazikaron. Some of us are Israeli, some have lived for extended periods of time in Israel, and some have close ties to Israeli friends and family.
This year, we want to share these stories with the entire BJ community. The stories of Yom Hazikaron are not just stories “over there,” in Israel, happening to other people. They are our stories, too—stories of our friends and family members who gave their lives. Stories that live in the hearts and minds of our members, stories of our experiences commemorating Yom Hazikaron. Stories of people whose memories we want to honor.
We will share these reflections on the day of Yom HaZikaron, and we invite you now to submit your story for inclusion in this project.
The stories can be of a friend or relative whom you will be remembering on Yom Hazikaron, or a personal story of what this day means for you.
