Alan grew up in a traditional Jewish home in the New York suburbs. After spending his 20s in the San Francisco Bay Area, he returned to New York where he had a long legal career advising start-ups and venture capital. He then worked for many years with non-profits, promoting inclusive economic development, and currently devotes his time to Jewish study, mindfulness practice, and cooking.
