Mazal Tov to our Kallat Torah and Kallat Bereshit: Beth Siegel and Alice Tiven-Gottesman
This year, we are thrilled to honor Beth Siegel and Alice Tiven-Gottesman by naming them the Kallat Torah and Kallat Bereshit, respectively. Mazal Tov to Beth and Alice!
Beth Siegel
Beth Siegel, together with her husband Scott Weiner, has been a devoted BJ member since 2008, and they were married by Rabbi Marcelo at BJ the following year. Living on the Upper West Side, they are regulars at Shabbat services, have traveled to Israel with Rabbi Roly several times, and have attended numerous BJ retreats. A dedicated volunteer in the BJ soup kitchen since 2008, Beth took over its leadership in 2019, following in the footsteps of Carol Gelles, the program’s founder. During the pandemic, Beth led efforts to convert the sit-down lunch service into a takeaway program, ensuring that over 4,000 meals were provided to those in need. In addition to her work in the kitchen, Beth has served on BJ’s Capital Campaign committee, helped organize fundraising galas, and participated in the Social Justice Leadership Committee.
Alice Tiven-Gottesman
Alice Tiven-Gottesman has been deeply connected to BJ her entire life—from her simhat bat through bat mitzvah—both celebrated in the BJ sanctuary. For several years, she worked at Tot Shabbat Services and has served as an ozeret at Kadima for the past four years. On Shabbat, Alice is often found at BJ, where she enjoys reconnecting with the children and members of the Family Life and Learning team. A graduate of BJ Hebrew School (now Kadima@BJ) and a member of BJ Teens, Alice has also volunteered with the weekly migrant dinners, helping parents while engaging with their children. Now a senior at Winston Prep, she spends her summers working at Ramah Nyack.
