Wednesdays July 24 and 31 and August 7 @ 5:45-7:30 PM

The three weeks between the fast of the 17th of Tammuz and Tisha Be’Av is often referred to as bein hametzarim—between the narrows. It is traditionally understood to be a period of mourning, as we anticipate the day on which we commemorate many calamities in the history of the Jewish people.

In a year of unparalleled challenges, it feels like we have been “between the narrows” for the past nine months, as we struggle to process the October 7 massacre, the war in Israel and Gaza, and antisemitism in both old and new expressions. This three-part series, led by Rabbis Sammy Kanter and Shuli Passow, will offer a space for discussion and reflection on what we have been experiencing this year.

It is our hope that this series provides an opportunity to discuss these sensitive topics in the context of our spiritual community, in respectful and heartfelt ways. To that end, this program is open to BJ members only, and participants must commit to attending the first session (on July 24) and at least one of the following two sessions (ideally both).

Participation is capped at 24, and registration closes on July 24 at 12:00 PM.
