United & In Community: Conversations That Matter
All events in seriesHow can we remain in conversation—and in community—with people whose views differ from our own?
Billy Planer’s new book, Conversations That Matter, draws on his 35-years of experience proving that talking to people we disagree with isn’t just possible—it is our greatest strength and how we will change the world. A trusted voice and a conversation activist, Billy’s work guides us to look past our differences, to show how moving beyond seeing someone as “the other” and recognizing them as “another” human being can transform disagreement into an opportunity for understanding and connection. As the founder and director of Etgar 36, he has led educational journeys for thousands of teenagers, families, religious congregations, non-profit and corporate boards, and interreligious and discovered how we can become comfortable being uncomfortable having conversations that matter.
Hear Billy discuss his work and new book in a conversation moderated by Ruth Messinger. Participants will also have an opportunity to put these ideas into action by practicing deep-listening with fellow community members and becoming more comfortable with the skills needed for conversations that matter.
