The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a massive toll on NYC’s communities and businesses, with long lines at food pantries, lights dark on Broadway and in Midtown, and miles of shuttered storefronts. Some voices are calling to tax billionaires and invest boldly in a more equal and inclusive recovery. Others fear that wealthy New Yorkers will not return, that the tax base is shrinking, and say we must pare government back to the basics to survive. What does the future hold? What paths should we take for recovery?

Join Ruth Messinger, the JCC’s Social Justice Activist in Residence and Dennis Walcott, President and CEO of the Queens Public Library for a virtual conversation on NYC’s future. This month’s special guests will be Annetta Seecharran, Executive Director of Chhaya Community Development Corporation , Gregg Bishop, Interim Executive Director of Coro New York and former Commissioner of the NYC Department of Small Business Services, and Jonathan Bowles, Executive Director of Center for an Urban Future.
