Celebrating Three Years of the Immigrant Respite Dinner
Three years ago, inspired by Sukkot’s call to welcome the stranger, BJ invited asylum seekers living in local shelters to share a meal in the sukkah. That invitation marked the beginning of our Immigrant Respite Dinner Program, which has grown into a community that extends far beyond shared meals and has immeasurably enriched everyone involved. Over the last several years, our weekly gatherings have brought together BJ members and newly arrived New Yorkers to share food, conversation, resources, recipes, and friendship.
This year, we celebrate that first meal by inviting our neighbors—no longer strangers—and our BJ community to once again come together for a meal in the sukkah.
All are welcome to bring their own food or enjoy a light meal prepared together by our BJ community and immigrant friends.
Registration is required—registration closes October 1 @ 5:00 PM.
