Join us as we travel together from BJ to Delaney Hall, an ICE detention center in New Jersey, to support families visiting loved ones in immigration detention. Delaney Hall is one of the only detention centers in the country without an indoor waiting area, meaning visitors – often family members of those detained, often primary breadwinners – are left to wait outside in all weather conditions. Our role is to show up with care and practical support: offering grocery gift cards and distributing essential items.
We’ll carpool together, spend time supporting visitors with dignity and compassion, and bear witness to their experiences. This is an opportunity to stand alongside families navigating an incredibly difficult system and to offer both tangible help and human connection.
Donate Supplies
While we are only looking for a small group of volunteers to come along on the day, we will also need help gathering supplies to give to those visiting loved ones. We are collecting pantry bags, sanitary pads, small children’s toys, and children’s books in Spanish. For more specific information on what we’re looking for, and on what goes into a pantry bag, please click here.
You can drop these items off at BJ’s Community House until Friday, May 1.
