Advocating for Uyghurs
Elie Wiesel said that “whenever men or women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must – at that moment – become the center of the universe.” One center of the universe right now is the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China, where it’s estimated that over a million Uyghur people are detained in a sprawling concentration camp system, subjected to what has been recognized by multiple nations including the United States as a genocide. Listen to a Uyghur advocate tell the story of what’s happening in her homeland, and connect with Louisa Grave, political director of the Uyghur Human Rights Project, about how to become involved in the fight against the genocide.
The event will be moderated by Ronen Schatsky and Leon Kraiem, members of our community who have been involved in Jewish-community advocacy on this issue since last summer.
