Community House Dedication in Honor of Rabbi Roly Matalon
The BJ Community House is so much more than a building. It is a place where relationships deepen, ideas take root, traditions are renewed, and new generations find their way into the life of our community. This Hanukkah, we will dedicate our sacred space on West 89th Street in honor of Rabbi Roly Matalon and his forty years of service and leadership, celebrating a new chapter in BJ’s history and the physical home that supports the life of our community. We will also honor and express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone whose generosity has made the vision of the Sacred Space, Sacred Future capital campaign come to life. These gifts are an investment not only in a building, but in the future of BJ and in the people who will continue to gather here to forge connections, explore deep questions, care for one another, and discover what it means to belong.
Join us for this memorable moment in the life of our community! After a beautiful havdalah, we will dedicate the Community House and celebrate Hanukkah with candlelighting, singing, and an elevated party for all ages. Feel free to dress up for this special occasion!
Approximate timing for the evening is as follows:
- 5:00 PM: Gather at 270 West 89th Street for a procession through the Community House into the BJ Sanctuary
- 5:30 PM: Havdalah
- 5:50 PM: Building dedication and words of gratitude
- 6:15 PM: Hanukkah candlelighting, singing, and party—enjoy light appetizers, fancy sweet treats, cocktails, and mocktails
The Rabbi Rachel Cowan Chapel will be available as a play space for young children and their parents/caregivers throughout the evening.
