Sukkah Screening—Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story
Join BJ’s Environmental Activists in our community sukkah for a screening of Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story, an eye-opening, entertaining documentary exploring the startling scale of food waste in the US—and the people working to change it. Before the film, we’ll hear from Miranda Potmesil, NYC Partnerships Director at Sharing Excess, a national nonprofit that rescues millions of pounds of perfectly good food from farms, wholesalers, and grocery stores and moves it to food banks and pantries across the country…including over 220 right here in New York.
Come early during Sukkah Open Hours to bring your own dinner, enjoy the sukkah, and settle in before the program begins at 6:45 PM. Light snacks will also be provided.
As we celebrate Sukkot and reflect on the harvest abundance and our relationship with the earth—we’ll consider how our personal choices can help build a more sustainable and just food system. Learn how lowering food waste can bring down greenhouse gas emissions and how we all can participate. Feel free to bring your own food; light snacks will be provided. After the film, we’ll have time for conversation and reflection together.
