Hanukkah Illuminations: Sixth Night
We recently returned as BJ members after having been away for some years. As BJ grew larger, we had found it difficult to discover ways to engage with the community. Upon our return, we were delighted to find that BJ had developed a wide range of small groups and other opportunities for involvement. In addition to joining the Mindfulness Prayer Practice Group, we have been volunteering regularly as greeters for Shabbat services. We love making sure everyone is greeted with a warm smile and a “Shabbat Shalom” to feel welcome upon arrival—we are getting to know regular faces. Volunteering makes us feel more part of the community. It is especially gratifying when there is a simha or B-Mitzvah with many first-time visitors to BJ. We take great pleasure in giving them a friendly greeting, helping them navigate unfamiliar space, and showing them the beauty of our sacred home and community. We feel blessed to be back.
