Betty Jane Jacobs and her husband, Alfred Litman, have been members of BJ since 1985 and celebrated the b’nai mitzvah of their children, Joey and Juliet, at BJ. She is a former public defender at the Legal Aid Society and, since 1992, she and Alfred have practiced law together at Litman & Jacobs. If you ask her, she’ll tell you that BJ has helped her to live her best Jewish life—at services, as a volunteer in a number of BJ’s social justice initiatives, and as a member of several havurot in which she has had a chance to study with, and learn from, other members of the BJ community. Currently she helps run BJ’s Thursday night respite dinners for new New Yorkers.
