Biography
Dr. Sara Shadmi-Wortman is co-founder and CEO of the Varda Institute for Community Building. An internationally recognized expert in community building and resilience, she has over 30 years of experience empowering Jewish communities worldwide. Her groundbreaking approach—creating a culture of belonging through community-building—has been implemented in synagogues, schools, and Jewish organizations globally and in broader settings such as Nepal, Burundi, and Israeli municipalities. Dr. Shadmi-Wortman has worked closely with rabbis, educators, and young Jewish adults worldwide to foster deep connection, resilience, and vibrant Jewish life.
A thought leader in practice and policy, she helped shape national strategies for the Israel Association of Community Centers and advises communities facing uncertainty and transition. She graduated from the Mandel School for Educational Leadership and the Maoz National Leadership Program, and has published widely on community and resilience.
