Support the West Side Campaign Against Hunger
In this time of extreme food insecurity, our neighbors at West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH) strive to alleviate hunger by ensuring that all New Yorkers have access to food and critical support services with dignity and choice. This High Holy Days season, please support WSCAH by donating online or bringing a check with you on Kol Nidre and dropping it in the designated boxes.
Below is a statement from WSCAH on their services, successes, and how BJ’s ongoing support bolsters WSCAH’s critical work.
Join West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH) in the Fight Against Hunger
At WSCAH, we believe that access to healthy food is a fundamental human right. Since 1979, we have worked tirelessly in pursuit of our mission to ensure that all New Yorkers have access with dignity to a choice of healthy food and supportive services.
WSCAH is more than an emergency food provider, we are a community dedicated to change, in which B’nai Jesnurun plays a critical role. With the help of generous donors and volunteers from the BJ community, in the past year, WSCAH:
- Provided 5.3 million pounds of healthy food, including 52% fresh produce.
- Connected 1,600 families to vital benefits, including $3.5 million in SNAP.
- Advanced collaboration, best practice sharing, and strategic purchasing through our leadership of The Roundtable: Allies for Food Access.
The Need in New York City
Over the past year, West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH) has worked hard to make healthy food even more accessible for New Yorkers facing hunger. By growing our home delivery services and distributions in high-need neighborhoods across the city, we’re helping more people get food close to home, and in ways that work for them.
This expansion comes at a time of deepening crisis. An estimated 1.4 million New Yorkers are struggling with food insecurity—driven by record-high rents, inflation, and a dramatic rollback of federal support, including impending cuts to SNAP and other basic needs programs.
