Haverim
BJ’s Hebrew school for Kindergarten through 6th grade, Kadima@BJ, bolsters the connection our young community members have with Judaism. Haverim is our program for 7th grade students. Haverim provides a platform for 7th graders to bond as a cohort, explore Jewish history, and think about what it means to become a B-Mitzvah at BJ.
New Haverim Model
In 2024, we revised our program for 7th graders to better focus on the journey towards becoming an active adult member of the Jewish community. Haverim is co-taught by Rabbi Becca Weintraub and Rabbi Deena Cowans, with special guests coming in throughout the year. We also added a number of cohort experiences for adults and students together, with the goal of continuing to cement relationships and seed conversations among family units.
7th Grade Trip
This annual trip provides an opportunity for our 7th-grade students to further their learning about the Jewish identity while getting to bond with their peers and connect to the BJ community outside of the classroom. We celebrate Shabbat, have fun, and engage in community service to complement the Haverim curriculum. The cost of the 7th Grade Trip is included in Haverim tuition.
For questions about Haverim, please contact Rabbi Deena Cowans, Director of Family Life and Learning.
