High Holy Days 5784: FAQs

When can I request guest entrance cards?

Registration for guests is now available. All members should have received a link to request guest entrance cards. If you can’t find the link in your email, please email membership@bj.org. Due to limited capacity, guests who are not immediate family of a current BJ member will be limited to joining services at Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew for services where more than one location is offered.

I’m participating online. What should I do if I don’t have a mahzor at home?

You can order a digital copy of Mahzor Lev Shalem directly from the Rabbinical Assembly by Wednesday, September 13. Digital mahzorim are available for:

  • Personal Leasing: Mahzor available for online viewing only (no download). Cost: $5
  • Licensed PDF Purchase: Mahzor available on or offline and never expires. Cost: $18

Processing takes one business day, so order online before the form closes on Wednesday, September 13, in order to allow the Rabbinical Assembly time to process orders before Shabbat and Rosh Hashanah. It will reopen on September 18 and close on September 22 to process orders for Yom Kippur.

In addition, limited hard copies are available for loan from the BJ office for members in good standing. Reservations must be made in advance and picked up in person during regular business hours. Fill out this form to reserve your hard copy.

How do I get a reciprocal membership entrance card?

We are offering reciprocity to members who are in good standing at their local synagogues. Please email reciprocity@bj.org.

I am not a member. Can I attend High Holy Days services at BJ?

Seating at our High Holy Days services is limited, therefore entrance cards are generally issued only to members*. We encourage you to become a BJ member to ensure access to High Holy Days services in person. With our sliding-scale dues, this option is affordable to all.

Our High Holy Days and Shabbat are always available online to the public at no cost.

* High Holy Days services for 20s and 30s are available to non-members. More info coming soon.

How many High Holy Days entrance cards do I get with my membership?

Members with individual memberships receive one entrance card. Those with family memberships receive entrance cards for two adults plus any other household members 26 years and under.

We are again utilizing the conference-style online registration system we have used for the past two years, based on tremendous success and feedback from members. The system allows members to select the individual services they wish to join (subject to availability) for themselves and each member of their household. Upon arrival to services, members will present a print-at-home QR code for access. No physical entrance cards will be mailed.

What does it mean to be a member in good standing?

To be a member in good standing, your account balance must be paid in full or on a payment plan. If your intent is to send in a check, stock/wire transfer, or a contribution from a donor advised fund, please be in touch with the Membership department about the timing of your payment. Read more information about the good standing policy.

Will you need ushers and greeters?

Yes, we will need ushers and greeters to help create a warm communal energy at our services. If you want to help by serving in this volunteer role, please indicate your interest when registering for services. We will be in touch later in the summer when shift details are determined.

Will services be available online?

All services from the BJ Sanctuary, as well as family and children’s services, will be available online.

Are there any COVID-19 policies for High Holy Days services?

COVID-19 protocols, if any, will be determined as we get closer to the High Holy Days, based on our assessment of the situation at that time.
