BJ Good Standing Policy
Updated June 2023
BJ’s bylaws require members to be in Good Standing to access all the benefits of membership, including pastoral care and lifecycle support, High Holy Days seating, and participation in the Annual Meeting. Good Standing is defined as having no unresolved open balance in your household from previous fiscal years.
Only BJ members in Good Standing will be eligible to renew their membership. Members with an unresolved open balance will be notified by BJ and then will need to either create a payment plan or be in an active conversation with the Advancement team to resolve the matter. Final resolution of open balances may include any combination of payments, time, and, if needed, forgiveness. No one will ever be turned away from membership or programming due to an inability to pay, but members must be in conversation with BJ to determine a possible payment plan.
If your membership is not currently in Good Standing, you may resolve your status by taking one of the following steps:
- Pay your balance, either in full or as part of a payment plan developed with Advancement staff. You can make a one-time payment online toward any part of your balance.
- Contact an Advancement staff member to discuss payment strategies due to financial difficulties, including possible forgiveness of debt. All payment and financial information will remain confidential.
BJ sends household account statements four times a year so that members are fully informed of their balances. We advise you to pay close attention to these statements as they arrive so that any questions or concerns can be resolved in a timely manner.
