Occupy the Zoom: Care
We will be watching and discussing the short documentaries CARE and Care Work is Essential Work. It’s Also Climate Work. The discussion will be led by Sylvia Vogelman.
Occupy the Zoom, formerly Occupy the Roof, is a three-night series, and we hope you can join us for all of them.
About CARE:
“Care delves deep into the world of home elder care through the eyes of both paid caregivers and their elderly clients. Through personal stories, Care reveals the deep humanity and poignancy of care work, as well as the challenges faced by elders, their families and their care workers. It also reveals the beginning of a movement to improve how we care—both for the growing number of older adults and for those who make their lives livable.
At a moment of great division in our country, Care highlights an issue that affects us all – urban and rural, immigrant and native born, red state and blue. Providing quality care for an aging population will require reimagining how we value and compensate care workers and how we support families who need their services.
Care raises critical questions to invite dialogue and engagement—before we hit a care crisis.”
About Care Work is Essential Work. It’s Also Climate Work.:
“Care jobs are green jobs – and we need more of them.
This short film was shot before COVID-19 turned our worlds upside down. We spoke to care workers and advocates about their experiences in a world that was already in crisis. And they shared exciting visions for how care can anchor a new kind of economy.
Narrated by Naomi Klein. Directed and edited by Nick Hector. Co-edited by Calum Hotchkiss.”
