Beyond Tu Bishvat: Environmental Justice
This Tu Bishvat, we are expanding our understanding of what it means to be stewards of the earth to include how our actions disproportionately impact oppressed communities. Building on the work of the BJ Environmental Advocates and the BJ Teen Executive Board Tzedek (Social Justice) Project, join us for a night to deepen our understanding of why equity and justice are important for the environmental movement.
Our program will follow the themes and rituals around the four cups of wine of the Tu Bisvhat seder. Through moments of intention setting and hearing from our panelists who are deeply engaged in this work, we will bring participants along a journey from internal reflection on how we can have an impact to thinking about our collective community power for change.
Panelists: Rabbi Isaiah Rothstein, Rabbinic Scholar and Public Affairs Advisor at The Jewish Federations of North America; Carlos Garcia, Energy Planner at NYC-EJA; Peggy Shepard, co-founder and executive director of WE ACT for Environmental Justice
BJ is proud to be hosting this event as part of Hazon’s Big Bold Jewish Climate Fest.
