SUMMARY:1619\, 1654\, 2021: Jews\, Race and US History
DESCRIPTION:With the ongoing national reckoning on race\, many American Jews are reflecting on systemic racism and ways we may be able to help. B’nai Jeshurun joins the Stern Center for Social Responsibility at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan to host a candid\, and probably difficult\, journey through American Jewish history as we explore historical documents about Jews and racism. We will think about what it means to “become American” and the ways that racism has played out within the Jewish community. This conversation will be led by Marc Dollinger\, Ph.D. \nDr. Dollinger holds the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Endowed Chair in Jewish Studies and Social Responsibility at San Francisco State University. He is the author of four books on American Jewish history\, most recently Black Power\, Jewish Politics: Reinventing the Alliance in the 1960s. His next project\, A Tale of Two Campuses: Jews and Identity Politics in the Golden State\, traces his experiences as a Jewish professor at both right-wing and left-wing universities. \nRegister Here
