Ordained by The Jewish Theological Seminary in 2018\, she is\, as far as she is aware\, the first blind woman in the world to enter the rabbinate. She provides consulting to individuals and organizations across the Jewish community on a variety of matters pertinent to disability access and inclusion.  She has taught in numerous synagogues and other organizations across North America. She was named to the Jewish Week’s 36 under 36 for her innovative leadership concerning inclusion of Jews with disabilities in all aspects of Jewish life. In 2017\, she delivered an ELI Talk entitled We All Were At Sinai: The Transformative Power of Inclusive Torah. She is a participant in the Institute for Jewish Spirituality’s Clergy Leadership Program. However\, following the loss of a loved one\, the seder may feel like it has lost the sense of order that it once had\, as one is reorganizing one’s life to accommodate the new normal. \nAs we anticipate the arrival of Pesah\, a time steeped in tradition and togetherness\, feelings of grief and loss may be heightened as the memories of years past resurface. The first night of Pesah offers us Leil Seder—literally “the night of order”—to think about a restoration of society where everyone belongs and is valued. Join Rabbi Mike Moskowitz for an exploration of insights on this reordering that can inform our outlook on sustainable models of being. \nRegister Now\nRabbi Mike Moskowitz is the Scholar-in-Residence for Trans and Queer Jewish Studies at Congregation Beit Simchat Torah\, the world’s largest LGBT synagogue. He is a deeply traditional and radically progressive advocate for trans rights and a vocal ally for LGBTQ inclusivity. Rabbi Moskowitz received three Ultra-Orthodox ordinations while learning in the Mir in Jerusalem and in Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood\, NJ. He is a David Hartman Center Fellow and the author of Textual Activism. His writings can be found on his website.

DESCRIPTION:Starting with regendered moments from the haggadah\, Tamar Biala and Yael Kanarek will take us on a journey with the daughters of Tisraelah out of Metzerot. Come meet Moshah\, Par’ah\, and the hand of Tehovah. \nRegister Now\nTamar Biala has taught in various batei midrash\, rabbinical schools\, and adult education programs in the United States and Israel. At the Shalom Hartman Institute she trained teachers and IDF army officers. She is the co-editor of Dirshuni (Volume I) with Nehama Weingarten-Mintz and in 2018\, edited Volume II. She has recently completed an English edition of Dirshuni\, to be published by Brandeis University Press. Currently she is working with Yael Kanarek on the Toratah project: Regendering the Jewish Bible. See more on her blog. \nYael Kanarek has been a practicing visual artist and jewelry designer working across various media for 30 years. In her work\, she explores the role of language and narrative in forming a worldview. In 2016\, after a decade of Kabbalah studies in the tradition of Baal Hasulam and in response to the stunning void of canonical literature that codifies women’s experiences in the sacred\, she began rewriting the Torah by reversing the genders of all characters. In 2019\, Tamar Biala joined the initiative\, and in 2020\, they founded Beit Toratah. Yael Kanarek earned her MFA in Electronic Arts from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute\, NY.
