SUMMARY:7th & 8th Grade Trip to Washington DC
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to invite your child to join us on our annual trip to Washington DC. This trip provides an opportunity for our students to further their learning about the Holocaust while bonding with their peers and connecting to the BJ community outside of the classroom. We will visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum\, tour monuments\, celebrate Shabbat together\, and learn and reflect on our experiences. \nIn order to maximize our time and ensure a meaningful experience\, we will be leaving Friday morning\, March 4\, 2022 at 7:15AM. We will return from Washington DC on Sunday\, March 6 around 6:30PM. \n \nThis program is included for all students enrolled in Haverim ‘20-’21 (current 8th grade) and ‘21-’22 (current 7th grade)\, or can be purchased for $450. We hope you will consider joining us for this special trip! \nRegistration closed Tuesday\, November 23\, 2021.  \n  \nWhat are our Covid Protocols for this trip? \nThis plan has been formulated based on guidelines from the CDC\, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH)\, and our peer programs\, building upon BJ’s Re-entry Task Force August report and campus operations plan. These guidelines are based on the conditions on the ground today. As such\, they are subject to change if conditions change. \n\nAll participants are required to submit proof they are fully vaccinated (two weeks after JJ shot or second Pfizer or Moderna shot) before the trip. No exceptions. \nAll participants must provide proof of negative PCR test results within 3 days of departure for the trip.\nStudents will be in shared hotel rooms for the trip\, as well as busses. When with their hotel pod\, they are allowed to be unmasked\, but as of now\, all group travel will be masked.

SUMMARY:Zayin Adar: Can We Really Turn Mourning Into Dancing?
DESCRIPTION:On Zayin Adar\, we come together as members and supporters of the Hevra Kadisha to acknowledge the sacred service of caring for the dead. This year\, we gather as our country nears 1 million deaths from the coronavirus pandemic\, and the world nears 6 million deaths. How might Jewish wisdom about grief help us weather what some are calling a secondary pandemic of grief? Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel taught\, “Life’s ultimate meaning remains obscure unless it is reflected upon in the face of death.” Members of the Hevra Kadisha are dedicated to facing death regularly. Bring your wisdom and experience to an interactive text study and conversation focused on the ways we can gain greater meaning in our lives from our proximity to death. \nRegister Now\nRabbi Melanie Levav is the founding Executive Director of the Shomer Collective\, powered by Natan\, a new initiative designed to empower individuals\, families\, and institutions to improve end-of-life experiences\, inspired by Jewish wisdom. Melanie was ordained as a rabbi by the Jewish Theological Seminary as a Wexner Graduate Fellow\, is a board certified chaplain\, a licensed social worker\, and proud to be a lifelong New Yorker.
