SUMMARY:Thousand Turkey Challenge 2020
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, our community comes together to support the West Side Campaign Against Hunger’s (WSCAH) annual Turkey Challenge and secure holiday meals for New Yorkers in need.  \nWSCAH is one of the largest emergency food providers in New York\, connecting food-insecure families to fresh\, healthy produce for over 41 years. Throughout the month of November\, WSCAH and our coalition of community partners band together to distribute thousands of turkeys and other holiday food to our communities. This year\, food insecurity is at an all time high\, with an estimated 1.5 million New Yorkers who will struggle to put together a Thanksgiving meal\, and we need your help. \nPlease join us in supporting the 2020 Turkey Challenge and helping WSCAH provide 5\,000 families with a Thanksgiving meal. You can donate here on WSCAH’s website\, or by texting TURKEY to 56512. \nWe cannot do this without your help. Donate today to ensure that all New Yorkers can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal this holiday season.  \nQuestions? Contact Larissa.

SUMMARY:An Ox\, an Idol\, and a Stolen Beam
DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays with Hadar- Unit 2A \nAn Ox\, an Idol\, and a Stolen Beam: Three Paradigms for Understanding Racism in the United States with Rabbi Avi Killip \nRacism is often understood as a personal sin\, the wrongdoing of individuals. While important\, this conception belies the multi-dimensional ways that racism affects society as a whole. In fact\, the Talmud itself explores the complexity of racism as a systemic force. This series will invite participants to explore what ancient Jewish texts teach us about racism in America today. We will explore three Talmudic frameworks for understanding the role of racism in our country. All are invited to workshop these ideas and think through how they might be useful\, and where their application is limited or maybe even damaging. \nThis unit is free for BJ members\, and $60 for non-members (includes unit 2B). \nRegister Now \n
