Membership is open to any person of the Jewish faith and his/her spouse/partner. Membership is for a one-year period, beginning July 1, 2008 and ending on June 30, 2009. Members choose one of the following membership categories:

  • Individual. Single member without children.

  • Family. Married couple or two individuals living together in a partnered relationship, with or without children; single parents with children who wish to be informed of or included in children or family events.

  • Full-time Student. You must provide a photocopy of your current student ID or registration.

  • BJ Friend. For those living outside of the tri-state area or beyond commuting distance from the synagogue.
  • Tze'irim Introduction. For first-time members ages 20-29

Entrance Cards for the High Holy Days

Membership in the synagogue (except for the BJ Friend membership) includes entrance cards to the High Holy Day services. Those with Individual or Full-Time Student memberships are entitled to one adult entrance card; those with Family memberships are entitled to two adult entrance cards. Although we do not issue Youth entrance cards, we do request that you note on your membership application how many children ages 12-18 are expected to join your group so we can account for seating.

BJ Friends may purchase cards for themselves and/or for friends and family. Those with Individual and Family memberships may also purchase additional cards for other family members and friends.

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Adult and Children's services will be held at the following locations:

  • BJ Sanctuary at 257 West 88th Street - this location has been filled.
  • SPSA at West 86th Street and West End Avenue
  • Jazz at Lincoln Center at Broadway and 60th Street
Family services will take place the first morning of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur morning at Symphony Space on Broadway at 95th Street. Families with children ages 7-12 are encouraged to attend the Family service.

You must have an entrance card to enter all High Holy Day services.

Locations for High Holy Day services are assigned on a first-come first-served basis.

The earlier you return your membership forms, the more likely it is you will be placed at your preferred location. If your family and friends wish to be at the same location, you must all renew at the same time.

Space at some locations fills up within a few weeks so please return your membership application and location request as soon as possible.

Entrance Cards Deadlines
In order for us to provide entrance cards, membership applications must be in our office and date-stamped by the following dates:
  • Rosh Hashanah entrance card deadline: Friday, September 12, 2008
  • Yom Kippur entrance card deadline: Friday, September 19, 2008

Volunteer Opportunities

articipation in Congregation B'nai Jeshurun's myriad activities and programs gives members the opportunity to bring Torah to life and to feel more connected to the BJ community. Contact Belinda Lasky at (212)787-7600 x224 to learn more about how and where you can volunteer.

The B'nai Jeshurun Dues Plan
As part of our obligation to create a kehillah kedoshah – a holy community – we each must assume the responsibility of meeting the financial requirements of our synagogue. The Fair Share Dues System allows members to pay their dues based on their household income. You are not asked to disclose your income, but only to accept those dues which are justly applicable to you. No financial documents are required. Rather, we ask that each member pledge as honestly and as accurately as possible. All financial information is treated confidentially. No adjustments will be made due to membership in other synagogues.
